Historic Oakwood Cemetery celebrates 175th anniversary

Troy, N.Y. (News10) — The historic Oakwood Cemetery in Troy is marking it’s 175th year this weekend.  This weekend Oakwood will be dedicating a time capsule, to be opened in one hundred years. It’s part of their effort to honor the past, and the future.

“In that 175 years, we’re not only recognizing and honoring the grounds, but the legacy of those who are interred here and what that means to the past and most importantly the future,” said administrator Bernie Vogel.

Many people know the Oakwood Cemetery as the spot where Uncle Sam is buried. Yet there are many stories in the over three hundred acre land, with over sixty thousand burials. Each narrative is just waiting to be discovered.
