McLaughlin critic visited by sheriff’s deputy over alleged Facebook threat

EAST GREENBUSH — A sheriff’s deputy visited an outspoken critic of Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin on Saturday for a check-in after the Republican politician claimed she threatened him in a Facebook comment.

The visit was triggered by East Greenbush resident Regina Fiacco commenting earlier that day on the Rensselaer County Republican Committee’s Facebook page that her husband “beats people up (sic) that is why you hide” after an unnamed administrator for the page called her formerly incarcerated spouse, Lewis Fiacco, a felon.

McLaughlin, who has clashed with the woman’s pseudonymous “Danielle Nicole” Facebook profile in recent months, alleged in the thread that it was a threat against him — something that she believes to be baseless. The county executive subsequently called the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office about the remark; he did not file a complaint…
