Mechanicville CSD Superintendent to step down

MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Months after his three-year anniversary as Superintendent of the Mechanicville City School District, Kevin Kolakowski has announced he is stepping down from the position. His last day will be November 24, 2025.

Kolakowski has been a part of the district for nearly 16 years, holding leadership positions like principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. He was appointed to the superintendent position in May 2022.

“It has been the greatest honor of my professional career to serve this incredible district for nearly 16 years as your Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and most recently as Superintendent. Mechanicville has given me far more than I could ever give back — lifelong memories, meaningful relationships, and the privilege of working alongside the most dedicated staff and remarkable students anywhere.

To our community — the community with the biggest heart — thank you. Your pride, support, and partnership are what make Mechanicville such a special place. The strength of this district has always come from its people, and it has been an absolute privilege to serve all of you. I am forever grateful for every opportunity, every challenge, and every moment spent working to make our schools stronger and our students’ experiences richer.”

According to Kolakowski, as he prepares to step down, he will continue to work with district staff and students to ensure the district is moving from “good to great.” Kolakowski also said he will ensure a smooth transition for the next superintendent…
