On October 24, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James attended the graduation ceremony for 238 new State Troopers. The event took place at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. It marked the end of the 217th session of the New York State Police Basic School. With this class, the number of sworn State Police members in New York is now about 5,110.
Governor Hochul congratulated the graduates and thanked them for their service. She said public safety is a top priority. Superintendent James also congratulated the new troopers. He said they are joining a tradition of professionalism in the New York State Police.
