Firefighters team up to battle not flames, but cancer

ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — For the first time, Albany and Schenectady firefighters came together Saturday for an event aimed at helping first responders fight cancer, along with the costs that come with struggling with serious diseases.

Both organizations aim to help firefighters- the Schenectady Firefighters Cancer Foundation was founded in 2012 after two local firefighters were diagnosed with cancer. They provide financial assistance, along with education, advocacy as well as prevention and screening opportunities to Schenectady firefighters.
