Police: Albany pair claimed to be bank investigators to steal person’s debit’s card

GLENMONT, N.Y. (WNYT) – Two men from Albany are accused of stealing a Glenmont resident’s debit card through an elaborate scam.

Bethlehem Police said the incident began when the victim received a call from a person claiming to be an investigator with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The person said that the victim’s card had been compromised, and that an “investigator” would come to retrieve it.

The caller told the victim to put the debit card inside an envelope and leave it in the mailbox at the residence. He said a white SUV would come to pick up the card, according to police…
