United Tenants of Albany sent NYS Assemblymember Gabriella Romero (D-Albany) a letter in May, asking for $10,000 funding to help individuals displaced by “Unsafe-Unfit” designations, and on Wednesday, that letter answered, with double the amount.

United Tenants of Albany says about 300 units carried an “Unsafe-Unfit” designation at one point in 2024 in Albany, with individuals being displaced without due process. So, the funding goes towards temporary housing, or new housing costs like security deposits and first-month rent.
United Tenants of Albany says the funding will fulfill a service gap in the community, and that they plan on working with the individuals to advocate for repairs, or identify new housing if it remains in disrepair…
