Capital Region trick-or-treating hours for Halloween

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Halloween is coming up this Friday, October 31. Some municipalities in the Capital Region are preparing by setting designated trick-or-treating hours or setting a curfew.

Here are a list of the municipalities offering designated trick-or-treating times and if a curfew is set.

  • The Town of Rotterdam: Designated hours are between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Police are asking parents to have their children off the streets by 8 p.m.
  • The City of Schenectady: Designated hours are between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Scotia: Designated hours are between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Police are asking parents to have their children off the streets and their front porch lights off by 8 p.m.
  • Glenville: Designated hours are between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Police are asking parents to have their children off the streets and their front porch lights off by 8 p.m.
  • Village of Amsterdam: Designated hours are between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • City of Amsterdam: Designated hours are between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Canajoharie: Designated hours are between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Fonda: Designated hours are between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Fort Plain: Designated hours are between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Fultonville: Designated hours are between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Hagaman: Designated hours are between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Palatine Bridge: Designated hours are between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • St. Johnsville: Designated hours are between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Gloversville: Designated hours are between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Pittsfield, Mass: Designated hours are between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The city of Watervliet has implemented a curfew, prohibiting children under the age of 18 from being in public between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31. According to the proposal, the reported late-night gatherings and loitering have led to noise disturbances, property damage and other safety concerns.

Similarly, the Scotia and Glenville Police Department have noticed the same concerns. “Unfortunately, each year there are incidents that mar the evening for some children and residents,” the police chiefs said. “While these incidents are caused proportionately by only a small number of older youth, the impact of the vandalism, litter and disruptive behavior adversely affects the quality of life in the whole neighborhood.”

In Schenectady, four fire stations will be offering a “safe place” for trick-or-treaters. Police and fire departments are asking those trick-or-treating to be safe and to contact police for any emergency…
