SCHENECTADY — All the drivers who claim to avoid Albany because of its ubiquitous red-light and school-zone cameras will soon have a new city to boycott.
That city is Schenectady, of course, which just received Gov. Kathy Hochul’s needed authorization to install 20 cameras near schools. Let the fun (and the ticketing) begin!
If the Albany experience is any guide, the cameras will slow traffic and improve safety around schools — no small thing. They will also generate millions in revenue, and the cynical might suggest that the latter benefit is what really drives camera lust among elected officials…
