Superintendent Mayberry has informed families about changes to food assistance in Albany County. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will not be distributed on November 1, 2025. In response, New York State will provide $30 million in emergency food aid. However, nearly 3 million New Yorkers may still experience a temporary gap in support.
The superintendent stated that free school meals will continue for all students. Additional support is available for households affected by the SNAP delay. The district has prepared a list of local and state resources, such as food pantries, community fridges, and nutrition programs in Albany County. Families can also contact school counselors and social workers for help.
