ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Albany County and the United Way of the Greater Capital Region will be holding distribution events to give out grocery store gift cards to Albany County SNAP recipients during the ongoing government shutdown. The gift cards are for Market 32, Hannaford, or Tops.

United Way said there are a limited number of gift cards and they will be issued on a first come, first served basis. To be eligible, you must be an Albany County resident and current SNAP beneficiary.
Distribution events will take place at seven locations throughout the Capital Region, listed below. Attendees must bring a government-issued ID card, current SNAP card or a proof of residency if you do not have your SNAP card — gift cards will not be distributed to anyone without these documents.

- Watervliet Public Library, 1501 Broadway #1 in Watervliet
- Thursday, November 13
- 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Guilderland Public Library, 2228 Western Avenue in Guilderland
- Friday, November 14
- 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Watervliet Senior Center, 1501 Broadway in Watervliet
- Saturday, November 15
- 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Albany Public Library, 161 Washington Avenue in Albany
- Saturday, November 15
- 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Single households can expect to receive a gift card of $50, while households with children may receive a gift card of $100. Each household is eligible only once at a single location.
