Martinez and Brown claimed to be FDIC Invesigators
DELMAR – Two Albany residents were arrested Tuesday, Oct. 28 evening after attempting to scam a Glenmont resident by posing as federal investigators to steal the victim’s debit card, according to the Bethlehem Police Department.
Police arrested Bailey C. Martinez, 24, and Deamonte E. Brown, 25, at approximately 5:30 p.m.
The incident began when the Glenmont resident received a phone call from an individual claiming to be an investigator with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The caller told the victim that their bank account had been compromised and instructed them to place their debit card in an envelope and leave it in their mailbox for an “investigator” to pick up in a white SUV.
Bethlehem Police officers, who were monitoring the situation, observed a white 2016 Nissan SUV with New York plates arrive at the residence and retrieve the envelope. Officers stopped the vehicle shortly after and took Martinez and Brown into custody…
