ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — This was the fourth annual remembrance hosted by local safe-streets groups to remember people who have died from traffic violence. Albany County said it has seen record-high traffic deaths in the past three years.
“In 2023, the City of Albany saw its highest number of traffic crash fatalities and serious injuries since those records were collected and published by the Institute for Traffic Safety and Management,” said Ed Brennan, President of the Albany Bicycle Coalition.

And because of that, the city began implementing school zone speed cameras and speed humps in residential areas in 2024. Brennan showed NEWS10’s Tyanna Xavier a graph that shows the numbers of fatalities and serious injuries.
“2023 was the worst year in Albany for the number of fatalities and serious injuries,” said Brennan. “Looking at 2024, we finally actually saw some progress. We saw that the number of fatalities and serious injuries fell 9%. 2025 over 2024 crashes are down another 9% and injuries were down another 22%.”…
