Albany County is adjusting its gift card distribution plan for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. Originally scheduled events for Saturday in Watervliet and Albany have been canceled due to progress in adding SNAP benefits directly to client cards. However, SNAP recipients can still pick up gift cards today at the Guilderland Public Library.
According to Albany County, the decision to cancel the Saturday events aims to streamline the distribution process. The county emphasizes the importance of bringing proper documentation to ensure efficiency and fairness. Only Albany County residents who qualify should attend the distribution.
The initiative, in collaboration with the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, provides grocery store gift cards to SNAP recipients during the ongoing government shutdown. The cards, valid at Market 32, Hannaford, or Tops, are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
