The school district said Officer Burns is retiring after serving as an SRO for over 10 years. Students lined the hallways to surprise Officer Burns and honor her on her last day.

“Officer Burns has been more than just our school resource officer—she has been a mentor, a role model, and a friend to our students and staff throughout the district,” Sand Creek Middle School Principal Mike Marohn said in a statement. “Her impact will be felt long after she leaves our building.”
