ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Several law enforcement agencies around the Capital Region are warning residents about recent phone scams. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York have all issued alerts.

According to authorities, the scammer will call residents by phone and impersonate law enforcement officials. The caller will then demand large amounts of money.
In Saratoga County, one resident was allegedly scammed out of nearly $10,000 after the scammer claimed that the sheriff’s office had multiple warrants out for their arrest. The caller also threatened the victim with arrest, loss of their children and harm to them and their family, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said.
In Montgomery County, authorities said they have received reports of a person calling and asking residents for $2,500 via Apple Pay. The scammer allegedly claimed the payment was for an ankle monitor to release individual from the Montgomery County Jail.
