Fire prompts lane closures on Vly Road in Colonie

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Crews responded to a structure fire on Vly Road in Colonie Tuesday morning. The fire closed a portion of the road and Central Avenue for several hours.

Village of Colonie Fire Company Chief Jeff Kayser said the fire began early Tuesday morning. When crews arrived, they were met with a well involved structure fire, with a heavy fire throughout the inside.

According to Kayser, the residents were able to leave the house before fire crews arrived.

Crews said, due to the heavy fire, water hose lines were placed in the basement, first and second floors to attempt to extinguish the flames. Around 7 a.m. the fire was extinguished, but firefighters were working to check for hot spots throughout the house.

Kayser said he believes the fire started in the rear of the house, in the kitchen, and quickly spread. According to the fire department, the house sustained heavy damage…
