Albany baristas join national Starbucks strike

ALBANY — Baristas at a Starbucks on New Scotland Avenue joined the weeklong strike against the company.

It’s the first local shop to take part in a job action the union says is aimed at protesting slow labor negotiations with the company.

Over a dozen strikers stood bundled in layers holding signs outside the 62 New Scotland Ave. shop Thursday morning as the strike expanded to new locations around the country. The picket started at 7 a.m. and lasted until noon on Thursday, said Lee Wendell, the strike captain and a barista at the Starbucks in Clifton Park Center.
