This is the Valente family’s twelfth year handing out turkeys. These giveaways started with families picking up the turkeys in Albany. After COVID, the Valentes changed it so that just organizations pick up the free birds and then distribute them throughout local communities.

“The organizations start calling me as early as like September and October,” said Daniella Redgrave. “This year, the numbers just kept increasing and they would call back and say, ‘You know, are you able to do 25 more? Our need is so great.’”

Regional Food Bank volunteers begin cooking Thanksgiving meals

“A lot of these are going to be going for people to have a meal at their own place for everybody that they have. If they’re not that way, they’re getting cooked at the city mission and fed meal to meal cause we serve about 1000 meals a day right now,” explained Perry Jones, the Capital City Rescue Mission executive director.
