Several Capital Region farmers’ markets to offer checks to fight food insecurity

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — With food insecurity being a prevalent issue, New Yorkers in need are now being offered benefits at some local farmers markets. These benefits are being provided through the state’s FreshConnect program.

Each week, several farmers’ markets in the Capital Region will be offering $20 worth of FreshConnect checks to qualifying New Yorkers for fresh, SNAP-eligible food. Here is a list of participating farmers’ markets in the Capital Region:

  • Empire State Plaza Farmers’ Market in Albany
  • Hudson Farmers’ Market in Hudson
  • Beacon Farmers’ Market in Beacon
  • Troy Waterfront Farmers’ Market in Troy
  • Schenectady Greenmarket in Schenectady
  • Kingston Farmers’ Market in Kingston
  • Woodstock Farm Festival Farmers’ Market in Woodstock
  • Phoenicia Farmers’ Market in Pine Hill
  • Glens Falls Farmers’ Market in Queensbury

Each participating farmers’ market will only have a limited number of coupons to distribute each week and those interested should visit the participating markets’ management or information table. These checks will be available while supplies last or until Dec. 31.
