CAIRO — A TikTok post featuring a gun was among a spate of recent security threats authorities investigated at Cairo-Durham Central School District.
The post and several other “unrelated” incidents “caused stress and discomfort among students and families throughout November,” Superintendent Michael Wetherbee and Greene County Undersheriff Tracey Quinn said in a joint statement. The pair said the investigated reports ultimately did not pose any threat to students but had fueled “inaccurate” rumors in recent weeks.
In addition to the social media post — which included an image of a BB gun and two people’s names — multiple members of the school community told authorities about a rumored “list,” Wetherbee and Quinn said. They did not specify what it contained, but said “neither the district nor GCSO has been able to substantiate the existence of any list.”…
