State Police leadership shake-up after alleged abuses at Ryder Cup

ALBANY — The State Police face a leadership shake-up a week after the Times Union asked the agency about allegations that high-ranking members abused their law enforcement credentials to obtain special access for themselves and family members at the recent Ryder Cup golf tournament on Long Island.

Beau Duffy, a spokesman for the State Police, told the Times Union on Monday that, “I will have something for you in the next couple of days, just waiting on a couple of things.”

On Nov. 18, the newspaper had asked State Police for comment on allegations that First Deputy Superintendent R. Christopher West had attended the Sept. 26-28 event in an official capacity, but also with his son and another relative. The newspaper also was provided with photographs of West and other high-ranking members in what appeared to be VIP areas of the biennial golf tournament, which pits players from the United States against golfers from Europe…
