ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A former Albany resident and nurse practitioner has been sentenced in a health care fraud and drug distribution case. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Anja Salamack, 50, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, one year of house arrest and was ordered to pay over $160,000 in restitution.

Salamack, along with over 300 other defendants, allegedly participated in health care fraud and illegal drug schemes which caused over $14.6 billion in alleged false billings and over 15.6 million pills distributed. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Salamack caused $163,639.58 in losses for false claims and issued 108 prescriptions.
Officials said while living in Delray Beach in Florida, she was practicing medicine in Albany and submitted false claims to health care benefit programs in New York for services that she never provided, as well as regularly prescribed Adderall to a relative of a former patient.
In July, she admitted to distributing Adderall for nonmedical purposes as well as filing the false claims. In a separate civil settlement, Salamack admitted that she filed claims to Medicare for psychotherapy services that were not given. She also admitted that she used over $48,000 in Provider Relief Funds for unrelated purposes…
