‘A he said, she said shop’: new craft and hobby store to open in Mechanicville

MECHANICVILLE — Schaghticoke resident Kim Fortune had always wanted to learn how to crochet. It wasn’t until Mother’s Day in 2022 — when her daughter, Amanda, gifted her with a pack of hooks, yarn and a crochet book — that she started her new hobby.

What began with scarves and hats expanded to ponchos and more, including tiny crocheted chains with googly eyes called “bravos” that she handed out to each of the over 500 students at Okte Elementary School in Clifton Park, where she is an attendance clerk, during the holiday season last year as a reward for saying “please” and “thank you” without being prompted to do so.

“They were just so excited,” Fortune said. “I love handing somebody something and they love it.”…
