ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Swifty’s Restaurant and Pub has shuttered its three locations following a tax seizure, leaving numerous employees without jobs. The closure, effective Thursday, stems from years of unpaid sales tax, with the Department of Taxation and Finance’s database revealing 14 warrants since June 2022, totaling $2.3 million. These include three warrants for Swifty’s, three for owner David Swift, and eight for SRGL and SRGU Inc., businesses registered under Swift.
On social media, the closure is described as temporary, but until the restaurants reopen, workers remain unpaid and unemployed. Todd Shapiro, a local restaurant owner, empathizes with the displaced workers, recalling a similar experience at Studio 54.
