CDTA adds stroller-only areas to select bus routes

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has launched a stroller pilot program on select bus routes. The program, which began on Monday, is reportedly the result of employee and customer feedback.

As part of the pilot, select buses will have a new open area, including signage, specifically for strollers. Riders who board the buses will be able to keep their child seated in their stroller, with the brakes applied, while in the designated area.

CDTA’s current policy requires that guardians remove their child from their stroller and fold it up. This will no longer be a requirement in buses with the pilot program.

However, each bus will be able to accommodate only one open stroller at a time. If another rider with a stroller boards and the designated area is already full, bus drivers may ask the oncoming rider to folder the stroller or wait for the next bus.

The Open Stroller Pilot Program has been implemented on the following bus routes: #905, #763, #351, #600, #601, #605, #450, #370, #352, #353, #452 and #810. Riders are encouraged to share their experiences during the pilot through the CDTA website
