While colleges struggle to diversify teaching programs, UAlbany sees success

ALBANY — There are far more nonwhite students in New York state, but their teachers are usually white women.

Colleges are trying to change that by recruiting nonwhite people to learn to become educators. So far, most upstate colleges have not managed to turn the tide. The National Council on Teacher Quality recently released a study that provides demographic data about education program graduates from every college in the state.
