TSA’s alternative to REAL ID begins February 2026

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -TSA has been enforcing REAL ID in New York since May. That’s one option for travelers to board flights and the acting federal security director said it’s been going smoothly at Albany International Airport.

“More than 98% of passengers who arrive at our checkpoints already have either REAL ID compliant state issued identification or another acceptable form of ID,” described Brian Bushnell. For the remaining two percent, TSA has been working on another alternative to get through the airports.

Starting February 2026, you’ll have access to ConfirmID. “ConfirmID gives those travelers an advanced option to have their identity validated before coming to the airport through TSA’s modernized alternative identity verification process,” explained Bushnell.

Anyone without an acceptable form of ID can pay $45 to validate their identity through the pay.gov website. It’s not a one time thing either.

“That validation is good for ten calendar days,” specified Bushnell. “So what does that mean? If you have a fourteen day trip, before you come back on day fourteen, you’re gonna have to go through that process again on pay.gov. If you’re going on a seven day trip, you’re good to go for the duration of that trip.”…
