LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Members of the New York State Police spent the day Wednesday preparing to give children at Albany Medical Center an early Christmas. Troopers met at Walmart in Latham to buy cartloads of toys for kids at the hospital who cannot be home with their families.
The shopping spree was in preparation for Friday’s big holiday party. Kids will be able to pick out toys, meet troopers, and K9s.

“It’s inspirational,” Trooper Stephanie O’Neil said. “These kids come, and you can see the stress and the hardship in them, and they have the opportunity — even if it’s just the 30 minutes they spend in the room with us — to let their eyes light up. To have a great time and to have a positive interaction with law enforcement. The priority is, obviously, making the kids’ days brighter and their load lighter.”
Trooper O’Neil said the event does not solicit public donations. NYSP have been doing the shopping spree for 12 years, and each year, it’s fully funded by members of the state police and their corporate sponsors…
