Reflecting on life of beloved local fire chief

LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Beloved Fire Chief Bob Napier passed away on Tuesday morning following a battle with esophageal cancer. NEWS10 spoke with his son about his commitment to community and the legacy he leaves behind.

Bob Napier’s son Rich Napier spoke with NEWS10’s Carina Dominguez at the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department and reflected on his dad’s 50 years serving the community.

“He was a life member here. He started off on the bottom, just a firefighter and worked his way up the ranks, lieutenant, captain, and eventually he was chief for almost 20 years here,” said Rich.

As long as he could remember his dad volunteered his time at Verdoy. It wasn’t long until Rich was following in his dad’s footsteps…
