ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany man admitted to a summer 2020 shooting and fleeing the state in Albany County Court on Monday. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Kareen Alston, 37, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The DA’s office said Alston fired a handgun at a group of people on June 24, 2020, around 8:12 p.m. near Ontario Street and Third Street. Authorities said no injuries were reported from the shooting, and they arrested Alston later that night.
Court officials said Alston failed to appear in Albany County Court and fled the state, but was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Task Force on November 27, 2023, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, for allegedly having a handgun. Alston was prosecuted and sentenced to federal prison by the Office of the U.S. Attorneys, the DA’s office said.
Alston was returned to Albany County Court by investigators from the Albany County DA after being transferred from a federal jail in West Virginia. He faces a sentence of seven years in prison and five years of probation when he’s sentenced on February 18, 2026…
