Cohoes man pleads guilty to threatening police with knife

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Cohoes man has admitted to threatening police officers with a knife during an alleged robbery in Saratoga Springs in November. According to the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office, 45-year-old Craig Valcik pleaded guilty to menacing a police or peace officer, a class D violent felony.

Valcik was arrested in Saratoga Springs after officers in a Stewart’s Shops parking lot were alerted a man had reportedly stolen cigarettes from behind the counter. When police tried taking Valcik in custody, he allegedly refused to comply and threatened the officers with a knife.

He was initially charged with first-degree robbery, menacing a police officer, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree criminal tampering.

On Monday, Valcik pleaded guilty to the menacing charge. He is expected to be sentenced on February 26 at 3:30 p.m…
