ALBANY — It was the year of living (more) expensively.

Yes, 2025 was a year dominated by cost-of-living issues, many of them seemingly self-inflicted by the anti-globalist economic policies of the Trump administration.

The Trump strategy has used a combination of tariffs on imports and a military-grade crackdown on immigration and border crossings in an effort to force companies to “re-shore” their manufacturing. The policies have spread fear in immigrant communities, but also kept tourists and visitors from abroad home, or forced them to choose other countries to visit during the holidays…
