Churchill: Saving these homes would be a gift for Albany

Earlier this month, Sergio Adams and Alfredo Balarin were among a group of Albany Common Council members who toured the old and, alas, long-vacant Tudor houses along Holland Avenue.

Both told me they were impressed with the architecture and detail within the homes. That’s not surprising. Pretty much everyone who tours them says something similar. The houses are special. (Adams even used the word “flabbergasted.”)

What was perhaps surprising, though, is that Adams and Balarin both said the houses were in good condition, which, given that the homes have been empty for nearly 20 years, speaks to the extraordinary quality of their construction. It might be a cliché to say we don’t make them like that anymore, but clichés become familiar for a reason…
