Hochul signs law mandating social media warning labels for young users

ALBANY — GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL signed legislation Friday requiring social media platforms with certain allegedly predatory features to display warning labels alerting young users to potential mental health risks.

The bill, S4505/A5346, applies to platforms that use features such as infinite scroll, autoplay or addictive feeds. These platforms must now show unskippable warnings when a young user first engages with these features, and periodically thereafter…
