HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) —Friday marked a historic moment in Columbia County. Jackie Salvatore was sworn in as Sheriff of Columbia County making history as the first woman of color elected sheriff in New York State. News10’s Tyanna Xavier met with her before her swearing in to talk about what this moment means to her and the community.
Jackie Salvatore has been serving as Columbia County’s undersheriff since 2022, the second-in-command of the Sheriff’s Office. News10’s Tyanna Xavier said, “It is clear she has been preparing for this moment long before today.”
Sheriff Salvatore has been in law enforcement for 32 years. She was appointed by outgoing Sheriff Donald J. Krapf. She shared that while becoming sheriff wasn’t her original goal, she wouldn’t want it any other way.
