New Albany Mayor Applyrs forms nightlife council, takes first questions

ALBANY — Arts, entertainment and the burning question of whether or not Albany is fun took center stage Friday as Mayor Dorcey Applyrs spent part of her second day on the job announcing the formation of a nightlife advisory council.

“It’s not frivolous,” Applyrs said of her administration’s focus on making the city a desirable place for recreation. “At its foundation, it’s a biological need that counters the pressure of our hectic modern lives … For a city, it’s a critical element to ensuring success, vibrancy, as well as longevity.”

Members of the council, which was created by an executive order Applyrs signed at the event, include Palace Theater Executive Director Kevin Johnson; Dora Philip, owner of the Hollow Bar + Kitchen and Roseanna’s; Fuze Box owner Craig Earle; and Colin Pratt and Lauran Slezak, the co-owners of Delaware Supply…
