Troy detective Justin Ashe eyes 2027 run for Rensselaer County sheriff

BRUNSWICK — Republican leaders in Rensselaer County government are rarely challenged by fellow party members. But 2027 might be different.

Troy police detective Justin Ashe is eyeing a GOP primary challenge against Sheriff Kyle Bourgault, believing that he can boost morale among the department’s rank-and-file, improve anti-drug trafficking enforcement and bring superior experience into the elected role.

“I’m all in,” Ashe told the Times Union. “And I know it’s going to be a battle, and I know it’s going to be a fight, but what I can tell you is that I’m down for whatever battle or fight.”…
