Vacant Schenectady church to be turned into apartments

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A church in Schenectady that has sat vacant for decades is being sold for redevelopment. The church at 535 Schenectady St. and the adjacent vacant lot at 529 Schenectady St. will be sold to Casale Investing LLC.

The property is going to be transformed into a 12-unit apartment building with one and two-bedroom units and off-street parking.

I am pleased to see the sale of this former church and its repurposing for a productive new use,” Mayor Gary McCarthy said. “I look forward to witnessing the transformation of both the building and the surrounding neighborhood.”

The city has owned the church since May 2023, and the lot has been owned since 2001. Both properties have been resolved to be sold to Casale and are currently pending sale, awaiting closing…
