4 accused of participating in Northway kidnapping prank

MALTA — Signaling an abduction is no laughing matter, according to State Police.

Troopers arrested two 18-year-olds and two 20-year-olds on Wednesday after a passenger in a vehicle traveling south on the Northway in Malta allegedly pretended that they were being kidnapped — and their friends were in on the joke.

“help!! being kidnapped!!” read a handwritten sign posted in the back passenger window of the car. State Police said another driver on the roadway spotted the sign and reported it, along with a description of the car, to troopers.
