Man headed to prison after cameras captured his rampage in Albany bar

ALBANY — A 41-year-old Schenectady man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for terrorizing patrons of Washington Tavern with a 9mm pistol last year.

Video shows Hector Gomez pointing a gun at around a dozen people in the Western Avenue bar around 3 a.m. on Feb. 8. He was expected to be sentenced to between 8 and 12 years in state prison by state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Marcelle. Marcelle imposed the decade-long sentence and ordered Gomez to serve five years of post-release supervision during a morning court appearance.

Gomez originally faced kidnapping, burglary and unlawful imprisonment charges after turning himself in to Albany police in February. He pleaded guilty in September to felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon…
