Four arrested for allegedly staging fake kidnapping on I-87

MALTA, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – Two women from Champlain and two teenagers were arrested on Wednesday for a sign they reportedly showed off in their car as a joke.

According to New York State Police, they shut down I-87 southbound in Malta on Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report that a passenger in a car on the highway was holding a handwritten sign reading “help!! being kidnapped!!”

Jasmine Barber, 20, and Emily Ferdinandi, 20, both of Champlain, and two 18-year-olds, were arrested. New York State Police normally do not identify 18-year-old suspects in press releases…
