4 charged after monthslong investigation into illegal gun sales in Albany, Troy

ALBANY — Four men were charged on Thursday after a six-month investigation into alleged illegal gun sales culminated in the execution of search warrants at multiple properties around the region.

State Police, with assistance from city police departments in Troy and Albany, found a total of 15 handguns, four assault rifles, one gun switch and multiple high-capacity magazines in addition to 25 pounds of marijuana at the various properties, according to a news release from State Police. A 21-year-old from Albany, a 31-year-old from Cohoes, and two 22-year-olds from Troy were charged with an array of gun sale or possession charges in connection with the investigation.

Police searched the Alexander Street apartment of the 21-year-old Albany man at 5:30 a.m., according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. Investigators say he allegedly sold eight firearms between Oct. 1 and Dec. 14. During the search of his apartment, police say they found a loaded AR-15 assault rifle, which netted additional charges, according to the district attorney’s office. He faces a 12-count sealed indictment that includes felony charges of first-degree criminal sale of a firearm, eight counts of third-degree criminal sale of a firearm and three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon…
