Supervisor Crummey delivers Colonie’s State of the Town

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -It’s tradition for Colonie’s town supervisor to update the community on their work, along with plans for the new year. For Supervisor Peter Crummey’s 5th State of the Town address, he announced his pathway to continued long-term sustainability.

“In my strident pursuit to build a better Colonie, I believe that success often flows when the executive takes time to meet the people who are taking care of the executive,” described Crummey. That includes going into the community with departments like public works.

The supervisor said his administration continues to invest in public safety. “In four years, we have restored 417 roads covering 93 miles. In 2025, we suffered 213 water main breaks. My friends, we must recognize the hard work and industry of these men and women who make these repairs even in the face of the most inhospitable weather conditions.”

Looking to 2026, roads will continue to be repaired and water systems upgraded. There’s 445 miles of aging water pipes underground that Supervisor Crummey said need attention. “We’ve taken on two major plans this year for our high break area. We’ll be in the State Route 9 area right away and also on the west end of town, the greater Reaper Street neighborhood as well.”

These investments are of course only possible through proper funding. “S&P Global Ratings once again raised its bond rating of our town. This time up to AA, firmly places the town in the high grade of ratings, and is also the highest rating the town has ever received going back to 1937,” explained Crummey. It wasn’t that many years ago when Colonie was on the State Comptroller’s watch list due to the town’s financial situation…
