Duty Calls: Loudonville resident takes command of New York Air National Guard

Gary Charlton II of Loudonville was promoted to major general as he took command of the 5,800-member New York Air National Guard during two ceremonies at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham.

Charlton replaced Maj. Gen. Michael Banks of Darien Center, Genesee County, on Jan. 9 upon Banks’ retirement after 37 years of military duty. He had also served as assistant adjutant general of the state’s military forces.
