Meteorologists in Albany are currently watching a major winter storm expected to sweep through the southern and eastern parts of the country this weekend. Whether the storm hits or not, they advise residents to bundle up as temperatures plunge to below zero.
Swaths of heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to hit the southern Rocky Mountains and mid-South on Friday before hitting the East Coast Sunday, according to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center. While the storm may stay just south of the Capital Region, there are signs it could track northward, according to Christina Speciale, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany. It’s not known how much snow could fall — if it does — but it would likely hit around Sunday.
