The biggest snowstorm in 2 years closes in on region

The biggest snowstorm of the winter is bearing down on upstate New York and could drop at least a foot of snow on the Capital Region and Hudson Valley by Monday.

Mountainous areas in the Catskills could get up to 2 feet of snow, and forecast models predict Albany and other communities closer to sea level might see up to 18 inches of snow. For days, weather forecasting services offered divergent estimates for likely snow totals, but most meteorologists coalesced around predictions of a foot or more in most local communities.

It is expected to be the biggest storm to hit this part of the state in nearly two years…
