Construction underway for $1.7B Public Health Laboratory in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction on a $1.7 billion public health lab in Albany.

The new Wadsworth Center Facility will consolidate five unconnected sites around the greater Albany area into one modern facility, aiming to strengthen the state’s ability to respond to future health threats. It will also support the next generation of scientists and provide opportunities for nationwide collaboration.

The new facility will be located on the W. Averell Harriman Campus, and will collaborate with SUNY Albany, as well as New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Laboratory, housing 800 staff…
