Union College pulled off an all-time comeback Saturday night at MVP Arena, rallying past RPI 5–4 in overtime to win their fifth straight Mayor’s Cup, and somehow, in true Capital Region fashion, the trophy didn’t survive the celebration.

Union trailed 4–2 with under three minutes left after RPI buried a late empty-netter, but the Dutchmen stormed back with two goals in the final 2:54 to force overtime. Then, naturally, Brandon Buhr, who already had a monster night, ended it at 2:25 of OT to seal the win.

Union Wins an OT Thriller

The final score was Union 5, RPI 4, after the OT thriller. It marked Union’s 10th Mayor’s Cup win in the last 13 meetings, and one of the wildest finishes the rivalry has seen.

But the most Albany twist? During the postgame celebration, the Mayor’s Cup trophy broke while being hoisted by Union’s #14, Brandon Buhr. Because of course it did.
