Amtrak has canceled or delayed dozens of trips along busy Northeast routes in recent days as it struggles to keep its fleet running amid subfreezing temperatures.
The disruptions have affected thousands of riders and led to long lines at rail stations throughout the region, as passengers compete for a smaller pool of tickets available under a trimmed-down schedule. By midday Friday, Amtrak Northeast had canceled at least 17 trains, including seven trips on Acela, the high-speed rail service operating between Boston and Washington, D.C.
